President Prabowo Subianto visited disaster-affected regions in Aceh Tamiang regency, Aceh province, Friday (12/12). The helicopter carrying the President arrived at Bima Patra Bukit Rata Football Field helipad after departing from Soewondo Air Force Base in Medan city.
From the helipad, the President directly headed to the evacuation post at Aceh Tamiang Bridge. Along the route, traces of the disaster were clearly seen, including mud deposits on roadways and dried-out trees from flash flood.
“I came as promised. Back then, access to Tamiang was still cut off. Cut off. When did it get cleared? A week ago. I promised to check on them,” the President said.
Upon arriving at the evacuation post, President Prabowo was greeted enthusiastically by children singing a song titled “Selamat Datang, Bapak”. He then proceeded to the health post providing medical services to affected residents.
To residents receiving treatment, the President asked about their requests and offered prayers for their recovery. He also engaged in dialog with the health workers.
After inspecting the health post, the President surveyed the residential area under the bridge affected by the disaster. From this point, he directly observed damaged houses covered in thick mud deposits, along with scattered wood debris, building rubble, and household items swept by floods.
At the evacuation tent, the President received a warm welcome from children who approached to meet and shake hands. The President reciprocated their warmth by hugging, carrying, and kissing the children’s foreheads. Residents expressed gratitude before the President departed the evacuation tent.
Afterward, the President inspected conditions in the surrounding areas, where dried clay had turned road surfaces dusty, and thick dust layers clung to house walls and residents’ vehicles. (BPMI) (EST/MMB)
