President Prabowo Meets French Foreign Minister to Strengthen Both Countries’ Strategic Partnership

President Prabowo Subianto received a courtesy call from Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of France Jean-Noël Barrot at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The French Foreign Minister paid a visit to Indonesia in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France.
The French Foreign Minister expressed hope to open a new chapter in the bilateral relations between both countries. “It will serve as an opportunity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France, to enter a new chapter of our relation which is aimed to strengthen our sovereignty and to unite our strength in order to solve various significant issues of the century, be it regional crises or global issues,“ Minister Barrot said after the meeting with President Prabowo.
During the meeting, a number of agenda were discussed, especially the current issue of bilateral relations of both countries. The discussion focused on strengthening the Strategic Partnership between Indonesia and France which has been established since 2011. The relations between both counties are also strengthened through the Plan of Action which was signed on November 24, 2021.
During the moment, President Prabowo stated the joint commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation between both countries. The Indonesian Government expressed hope that the bilateral cooperation between the two countries could be more extensive.
The Indonesian Government highlighted an extensive cooperation with the French Government in defense sector, especially on modernization in the Primary Weaponry Defense System. Additionally, the Indonesian Government also expressed hope to extend the cooperation in technology transfer. It is one of the Government’s priorities since a strong defense system is essential in maintaining national stability.
During the meeting, Minister Barrot expressed his appreciation to President Prabowo for receiving his visit. The visit to Indonesia is expected to gain a concrete result in strengthening the partnership between both countries.
“It is also a great opportunity for me to express my appreciation to President Prabowo for Indonesia’s active preparation of this visit,” Minister Barrot concluded his press statement.
