President Prabowo Subianto Tuesday (10/20) received Chair of the National Economic Council (DEN) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan along with a number of the council’s high-ranking officials and several ministers, to discuss the latest developments in the economic sector and policy recommendations proposed in response to the global dynamics and its impact to Indonesia’s economy.

After the meeting, Luhut stated that the Council proposed a number of recommendations drawn up to tackle issues relating to the latest developments in the economic sector and a number of problems that had been identified. He added that DEN did not only describe the problems but it also proposed several alternative solutions. Since the meeting was also attended by the Minister of Finance, Governor of Bank Indonesia, and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, they could confirm the data presented.

“We explained each point one by one, as the Minister of Finance, the Governor of Bank Indonesia, and the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs were present. This also gave us an opportunity to confirm the available data,” he said.

He went on to say that President Prabowo also had shown considerable interest in the economic data presented. The meeting also discussed various future risks, including the potential impacts of El Niño and La Niña, along with measures to anticipate them. He added that the Government may use significant number of data and studies in the decision making process.

On that occasion, DEN also reported on several strategic issues, such as developments in social protection, food security, downstream industrialization, fuel prices and availability, and developments in the capital market. Luhut told the President that the Council will provide him with more frequent data briefings, particularly amid the rapidly changing global economic landscape.

“We plan to provide the President with more regular data briefings to ensure he stays well-informed with the latest developments in the global economy,” he concluded. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RAS/MMB)
