President Prabowo Subianto Monday (6/16) paid a state visit to Parliament House, Singapore. In order to strengthen bilateral relations, President Prabowo named an orchid “Paraphalante Dora Sigar Soemitro”.

The procession was solemn and meaningful.

The President himself chose the orchid’s name as a form of respect for his beloved late mother, Dora Sigar Soemitro. This naming moment is also a symbol of personal closeness and a form of diplomatic appreciation in Singaporean tradition.
CEO of Singapore National Parks, Ms. Hwang Yu-ning also attended the procession and explained the characteristics of orchids in person to President Prabowo. She also gave a book entitled “Singapore’s Orchid Diplomacy” to President Prabowo.

For the record, the Paraphalante Dora Sigar Soemitro Orchid is a charming hybrid, well-known for its prolific blooming. It produces upright flower stalks about 30 to 40 cm long, with each stalk carrying 8 to 12 large, outward-facing flowers with 7 cm in diameter, arranged with a graceful, elegant spacing.

The star-shaped petals and crown are soft pink, adorned with a rich rose-colored fine line pattern that gradually fade to white at the tips. This beauty is enhanced by the striking branched flower lip with a bright golden base speckled with maroon, creating a bold contrast that remains harmonious in flower’s overall elegant appearance.

The naming of this orchid is not only a symbol of honor, but also a representation of the ever-growing friendship between Indonesia and Singapore.

Through flower diplomacy, the two countries reaffirm their commitment to continue to establish close cooperation amid regional dynamics and global challenges. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (JAS/EP)
