Indonesia will rise as a strong and self-reliant country, President Prabowo Subianto has said.

The President made the statement in his remarks at the 35th Congress of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Indonesia’s largest Islamic organization, in Jombang regency, East Java province, on Thursday (08/27).

“We have achieved self-sufficiency in food, and soon, we will achieve it in energy. Insha Allah, in the near future, we no longer need to import too much fuel oil from any country. We have built tens of thousands of central kitchens for the MBG (Free Nutritious Meal program). It has reached more than 62 million beneficiaries,” he said while reaffirming commitment to resolving challenges in MBG implementation.

“It is important that the benefits reach all our children, all expectant mothers, and all senior citizens,” he said.

On that occasion, the President expressed optimism that the Red-and-White Village Cooperatives will strengthen the people’s economy and ensure that subsidized goods are distributed at prices aligned with subsidy policies.

“We will ensure that all subsidized goods will reach the people at the lowest subsidy prices. Subsidized goods must not be traded for profit and will not be traded for profit,” he said.

According to the President, although Indonesia faces great challenges, including El Niño and the geographical constraints of being an archipelagic country, it has abundant natural resources and energy potential that serve as strong capital for national revival.

“Believe me, in a few years, Indonesia will rise remarkably, and no one will be able to hold us back,” he said while underscoring the importance of eradicating corruption and saving budgets.

“With budget efficiency, we have saved hundreds of trillions [of rupiahs]. That is the amount we must use optimally to help the most underprivileged and the most vulnerable among our people,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/LW)
