President Prabowo Subianto Monday (08/11) had a tête-à-tête with President of the Republic of Peru Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta during her state visit.
“On August 12, tomorrow, Indonesia and Peru celebrate their 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. It is a great honor that Your Excellency is here on this historic day. To Indonesia, Peru is a friendly country, an important state in the region of Latin America, and we hope to extend and enhance the bilateral relations between Peru and Indonesia,” he said in his opening remarks.
The Head of State emphasized that although Indonesia and Peru are separated by a large geographical distance, both countries are Pacific nations committed to improving the wellbeing of their people and share aligned interests.
On that occasion, President Prabowo also welcomed the efforts to improve the Indonesia-Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IP-CEPA).
“I warmly welcome efforts to enhance the Indonesia-Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. We also hope to gain Peru’s support for our accession to becoming a member of the OECD,” he said.
President Prabowo also highlighted potential cooperation in the fisheries sector, considering Peru is well-known as one of the economies with an advanced fisheries industry.
“What is interesting is Peru’s experience and Peruvian enterprises that are very advanced in fisheries. I suppose it has major potential for cooperation. Shortly, I will meet with several companies from Peru,” he said.
For the record, the tête-à-tête serves as a starting point for both leaders to exchange views on bilateral issues prior to bilateral meetings with respective delegates. This historic momentum is expected to spark even stronger strategic cooperation in the future. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/MUR)
