President Prabowo Subianto held a bilateral meeting with President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae-myung at the Hwabaek International Convention Center (HICO) in Gyeongju on Saturday (11/01). The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit and reflected both nations’ commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership across various sectors.

In his opening remarks, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation to President Lee for successfully hosting the APEC 2025. He commended President Lee’s leadership in ensuring that this year’s forum is both productive and timely.

“I would like to extend my congratulations on your leadership at APEC. The event has been organized very well, efficiently, and with remarkable punctuality down to the minute,” said the President.

President Prabowo also conveyed his appreciation for the dinner reception previously held by the host country.

“I would like to thank you for the splendid dinner last night. It was truly impressive, and I believe Korea will conquer the world with your music and dance. All young Indonesians are crazy about K-Pop,” President Prabowo remarked, as President Lee responded with a warm smile.

Meanwhile, President Lee conveyed his gratitude and honor for President Prabowo’s presence in the Republic of Korea. He underscored the importance of maintaining dialogue and strengthening cooperation amid an increasingly uncertain global security environment.

“At present, we are living in an increasingly unstable security environment. Therefore, I would like to ask you, Mr. President, to share some of your wisdom with me and with the Republic of Korea,” said President Lee.

On that occasion, President Lee also praised President Prabowo’s leadership during his first year as President of the Republic of Indonesia. He added that the Republic of Korea is looking forward to welcoming President Prabowo for his official state visit that was postponed last September.

“I am confident that the Korean people will welcome you with all their hearts,” he said warmly.

At the meeting, President Prabowo was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry Rosan Roeslani, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. (BPMI SETPRES) (AP/MMB)
