President Prabowo, President Lula da Silva Hold Tête-à-Tête Meeting, Discuss Indonesia-Brazil Strengthened Strategic Partnership

President Prabowo Subianto, Thursday (10/23), held a tête-à-tête meeting with President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in President Prabowo’s office at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. The warm and friendly meeting was an important part of President Lula da Silva’s state visit to Indonesia and served as a momentum to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

In his introductory remarks, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for President Lula da Silva’s presence in Indonesia. The Head of State also emphasized his strategic views on Brazil’s role as a vital partner in the Global South.

“We consider Brazil as a pivotal leader in the South, in the Global South, a leader of developing countries. We share a common background; we are large countries, and I think we have the largest tropical forest in the world. Brazil is a very strong and successful producing country on agriculture,” said President Prabowo.

President Prabowo also expressed his admiration for President Lula da Silva’s leadership, which prioritized the welfare of the people. President Prabowo said that some of the President Lula da Silva’s policies inspired him to prioritize the welfare of the people as his administration’s top priority.

“That is also my top priority, namely the welfare of the Indonesian people. Once again, welcome, and I look forward to our meeting today,” said President Prabowo.

President Lula da Silva also expressed his joy at returning to Indonesia after 17 years. He highlighted the importance of sharpening the strategic cooperation between the two countries, which has been established since 2008.

“First of all, I would like to express my great happiness that I return to Indonesia after 17 years. In 2008, we established a strategic partnership. And since then, our relationship has developed very positively,” said President Lula da Silva.

President Lula da Silva emphasized that Indonesia and Brazil share a common vision in fighting for the well-being of their people, as well as having great potential to play a stronger role at the global level. President Lula da Silva also expressed high hopes for renewing and expanding the strategic partnership between the two countries, particularly in the fields of economics, science, and technology.

“I come here with high hopes to renew our strategic partnership, forge new agreements, not only on bilateral trade, but also on investment in new areas, such as artificial intelligence, data centralization, deepening our scientific and technological ties, enhancing ties between our universities, and most importantly, having a balanced trade policy between the two countries. This policy must be mutually beneficial,” said President Lula da Silva.

Furthermore, President Lula da Silva emphasized that Indonesia is a strategic partner for Brazil, including within the framework of cooperation between countries of the Global South. President Lula expressed optimism about the future of relations between the two countries.

“I am very pleased to be here, with high hopes and a strong desire that we can work together to make the relationship between Brazil and Indonesia more productive and bring greater benefits to our people.
