President Prabowo Promotes Digital Legal Services for Better Public Access
President Prabowo Subianto, on Tuesday (09/29), received Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas and a number of Red and White Cabinet ministers to discuss the progress of public service digitalization and strengthening of Legal Aid Post (Posbankum) throughout Indonesia.
The Minister said that his office will soon launch a public service digital system, allowing all licensing procedures and public services within the ministry are processed online. He said that the initiative is part of the Government’s efforts to provide ease, faster, and more efficient services to the public.
“First, regarding digitalization, the Ministry of Law will soon launch (a system) where all licensing and public service processes within the ministry are conducted online,” he said.
On that occasion, Supratman reported to the President that approximately 83,960 legal aid posts have been established across village and subdistricts in Indonesia. The posts are intended to provide the public with early access to information, legal assistance, and resolution of ongoing legal disputes.
“I reported the President that, out of the more than 83,000 Posbankum that have been established, we have received around 16,000 applications, and 14,000 of which were successfully resolved through mediations,” he added.
These resolutions adopt restorative justice approach, allowing cases that might be proceed to formal judicial proceedings to be resolved through community-level dispute resolution mechanisms. Therefore, the mediations resulted in savings of approximately Rp1.2 trillion in legal and dispute-resolution costs.
The Minister went on to say that other 2,000 cases will be handled through free legal assistance, affirming the Government’s commitment to ensure that all citizens requiring legal assistance have the access to what they need.
In the meeting, President Prabowo also delivered directives for all ministries and government institutions to continue improving their governance and upholding clean and accountable government administration. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RAS/MMB)
