President Prabowo Subianto, Friday (6/20), reaffirmed Indonesia’s unwavering commitment to the non-aligned principle and peaceful solutions to global conflicts during a plenary session discussion of the 2025 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 held at the ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Center, St. Petersburg.

The President said Indonesia has long maintained a non-aligned stance and consistently promoted peaceful resolutions to armed conflicts, including the situation in Ukraine. He also highlighted Indonesia’s ceasefire proposal, which was submitted two years ago.

“Two years ago, Indonesia proposed an immediate ceasefire to help ease the conflict in Ukraine. Back then, the response from Russia was quite open, even very positive,” he said.

President Prabowo then pointed to the situation on the Korean Peninsula as an example of an effective ceasefire that helps maintain stability, although the conflict has not officially ended.

“Today, between North Korea and South Korea, there is a demilitarized zone supervised by the UN. The Korean War has not officially ended, but peaceful conditions have been established,” he said.

In the meeting, President Prabowo also emphasized that Indonesia will continue to encourage diplomacy and play an active role in maintaining global peace, without having to take sides or submit to pressure by any party.

After attending the SPIEF 2025, President Prabowo also explained that during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, they also discussed concerns about Iran. He said that Russia plays a crucial role in maintaining regional stability.

“Russia has greater influence in the region, especially when it comes to the Iranian government. So, I believe that the role of the Russian government will be very significant. We want everyone to take a step back, find a peaceful solution for all parties,” President Prabowo told the media.

For the record, the annual economic forum SPIEF 2025 was attended by world leaders, global entrepreneurs, and international academics who discussed strategic issues, such as food security, investment, and geopolitical stability. President Prabowo’s presence emphasized Indonesia’s active role on the global stage as a country that consistently advocates peaceful paths and diplomatic solutions.
