President Prabowo Subianto receives the Grand Order of Mugunghwa, the highest order awarded by President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae Myung, at the Garden of Sangchungjae, Wednesday (04/01).

During his state visit to the Republic of Korea, President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday (04/01) received the Grand Order of Mugunghwa—the highest order of the Republic of Korea, which was awarded directly by President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung, in a Friendship Event that took place at the Garden of Sangchungjae, at the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Korea.

The Grand Order of Mugunghwa is the Republic of Korea’s highest national award, awarded exclusively to the Presidents of the Republic of Korea and their spouses, as well as to the current or former Heads of State of friendly countries and their spouses. This award is given for outstanding service in supporting the development and security of the Republic of Korea.

On that occasion, the Government of the Republic of Korea bestowed the award on President Prabowo as a form of appreciation for his contribution and role in strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea, including in upgrading the status of the partnership between the two countries to a Special Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The award received by President Prabowo consists of several honorary attributes—a badge in the form of a ribbon, a collar (necklace), a star (brooch), and a lapel badge (pin) —all made of precious metal and decorated with gemstones.

Since it was first awarded in 1949, the Grand Order of Mugunghwa has been awarded to more than 100 world figures from both home and abroad.

Some great figures who have received this award include the first President of the Republic of Korea Syngman Rhee (1949), King Hussein of Jordan (1983), Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (1986), Emir of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani (2007), French President Emmanuel Macron (2018), and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands (2003).

This award underscores the strong friendship and strategic cooperation between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea, which continues to grow and deliver tangible benefits to both countries and the region. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RD/TM)
