President Prabowo Revisits Sumatra

President Prabowo Subianto showed Government’s strong commitment to addressing disasters. After completing a series of state visits to Pakistan and the Russian Federation, President Prabowo immediately turned his attention to disaster-affected areas in Sumatra.

The Garuda Indonesia-1 aircraft landed at Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province, on Friday (12/12). Shifting swiftly from overseas diplomatic engagements to a domestic humanitarian mission, the President refocused on ensuring that the disaster response in Sumatra is conducted in smooth, accurate, and well-integrated manners.

President Prabowo was scheduled to revisit several locations and inspect the evacuation centers, logistics distribution, and health services. Also, ensuring the readiness of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI), Indonesian National Police (Polri), National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and local governments to protect affected communities.

The President aims to ensure that all assistance is effective and humane, including the provision of food and healthcare services, as well as the restoration of vital infrastructure such as bridges, roads, embankments, and communication networks.

Previously, during Cabinet Meeting on disaster response and recovery for Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra on Sunday (12/7), President Prabowo emphasized that public safety must remain the top priority. Regarding aid distribution, he stressed that essential supplies must reach affected communities on time.

“We must prioritize the people’s needs. Medicines, in particular, must be delivered immediately and treated as a top priority,” said the President.
