President Prabowo Subianto announced that the Government has enacted Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 10 of 2026 on the Establishment of the Task Force on Layoff Mitigation. According to the President, the policy reflected the Government’s firm commitment to continuously protecting workers.

“Please rest assured, we will defend the interests of the workers. To those threatened by layoffs, we will stand by you and safeguard your interests,” the President stated in his remarks at the International Labor Day commemoration held at the National Monument Compound, on Friday (05/01).

The Head of State further emphasized that the Government will continue to ensure that workers remain protected under any circumstances, underscoring the State’s role in safeguarding their welfare.

“Should there be any business actors who fail, please rest assured. We are a strong country. The State will step in and will defend its people at all costs, do not worry.” he added.

In line with this, the President also conveyed that the Government will strengthen social protection programs for low-income citizens. This policy formed part of the Government’s comprehensive efforts to protect and support the public.

“We also provide substantially great social protection. This year, we have allocated Rp500 trillion for low-income communities,” he revealed.

On the occasion, the President further stated that he consistently instructs his entire cabinet to adopt policies that prioritize public welfare. This step reflected the Government’s partiality toward the people.

“I have instructed all the ministers, “If you are to adopt or draft a policy, please ensure that it really benefits the people. Once it does, then do not hesitate and go ahead (with the policy),” the President emphasized.

The establishment of the Layoff Mitigation Task Force on the International Labor Day served as a symbol of the Government’s strong commitment to ensuring that the State remains present not only when the economy grows but also in times of hardship. The State will protect, support, and ensure that no worker is left behind. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (YA/TM)
