President Prabowo Subianto expressed appreciation for the synergy of all parties involved in the handling and recovery in disaster-affected areas. This appreciation was conveyed in his directives at a limited meeting, held at the National Support Post for Aceh Natural Disaster Management, located at the Sultan Iskandar Muda Air Force Base, Aceh Besar, on Sunday (12/7).
In his directives, the President emphasized that solidarity in all Government elements, volunteers, and community is great power for accelerated recovery in affected areas. “I see that all officials and officers on the ground work in unity and solidarity for people and areas recovery,” said the President.
According to the President, the disasters that hit several regions are both a trial and a test for Indonesia. However, the Head of State emphasized that long experiences in dealing with previous major disasters have shaped national resilience.
“Through cooperation and solidarity, we can get through this situation. We have proven that we work tirelessly. I saw it myself on the ground. I asked the soldiers; some have been working for seven days or even eight days. Thank you,” he said.
Regarding aid distribution, President Prabowo urged more careful attention paid to the aid distribution management, adding that medicines should be a priority to supply and received on time to those in need.
“We must ensure that what people need is delivered. I think medicines must be prioritized. All needs must be met immediately,” he stressed.
In addition to medical needs, the President was also concerned about clothing needed by the affected residents. Besides a special clothing program for disaster-stricken areas, the President also encouraged public participation through donations of suitable clothing.
“We can encourage our people to donate their clothes that are still in good condition. We demonstrate our spirit of cooperation and social solidarity,” he added.
On the occasion, the President encouraged all sides to face this recovery period with a positive spirit and self-confidence. He said that he would continue to monitor the progress in the affected areas.
“I just want to give moral support. I want to know and hear directly what is needed so that we can make quick decisions. So, perhaps we will hold limited meetings in affected areas,” the President said. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (JAS/MUR)
