President Prabowo Subianto and Islamic Leaders Unite in Hambalang: Call for Calm and Unity

President Prabowo Subianto Saturday (08/30) met with leaders and secretary generals of several Indonesian Islamic organizations at his residence in Hambalang village, Bogor regency, West Java province.

President Prabowo Subianto Saturday (08/30) met with leaders and secretary generals of several Indonesian Islamic organizations at his residence in Hambalang village, Bogor regency, West Java province.

Chairperson of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) Yahya Cholil Staquf stated that the meeting served as a room for open dialogue between the President and community organization leaders, adding that they also discussed overall national issues, including cooperation in facing existing challenges.

“We have agreed to work together, side by side, to respond to the situation, to persuade people to stay calm. Inshallah, under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration and with the support of Muslim leaders, we will be able to overcome all kinds of challenges ahead of us,” he said.

Yahya also expressed hope that there will be a follow-up meeting between Islamic organizations and the President.

“I hope we can state a shared commitment, a joint agreement between President Prabowo Subianto and Islamic organizations as representatives of Muslims in Indonesia,” he said.

Echoing a similar sentiment, Chairperson of the Central Executive Board of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir underscored the vital role of Islamic organizations in preserving national unity, while expressing appreciation for the President’s openness to feedback from community organization leaders.

“The President was very open, and we shared the same view that we, Islamic organizations, are a force with a long history in this republic, both during and after independence. We truly understand and fully comprehend that we need to preserve unity, integrity, and the future of the nation together,” he said while also stressing the importance of maintaining democracy

“We understand democracy and aspiration. However, we are certain that all Indonesian people can use democracy with full responsibility, with courtesy, and with vigilance against matters that lead to violence and acts that tear down the integrity and unity of Indonesia,” he remarked.

Joining the President during the meeting were Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly Ahmad Muzani and several ministers and vice ministers of the Red and White Cabinet. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/EP)
