President Prabowo Subianto Calls for Broader Perspective in Sumatera Disaster Response and Recovery
President Prabowo Subianto has emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity and clean governance in every measure taken for disaster handling and recovery in Indonesia.
In his directives on disaster response and recovery in the provinces Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra provinces, the President ordered his administration to approach every disaster from a wider perspective.
“We must view this from a wider perspective. When we are being tested, we should understand the larger national challenges at stake,” the President stated at National Assistance Post for Disaster Management in Aceh, located at Sultan Iskandar Muda Military Air Base, Aceh Besar regency, Sunday (12/07).
The President also emphasized that disasters should serve as a reminder of the need to manage all potentials and resources effectively for the benefit of the people.
“Let me remind you that there must be no deviation and no corruption within all government institutions,” he said.
The Head of State also reminded his administration to ensure that no embezzlement occurs in any project or program under their responsibility, adding that there is zero tolerance for anyone who seeks to profit from the people’s suffering.
“I do not want anyone to use this disaster as an opportunity for personal gain. I will impose strict sanctions,” he firmly stated.
The President also instructed his administration to identify any indications of fraud and address them according to the prevailing law.
“No one should take advantage in the middle of people’s suffering. Therefore, the National Police must investigate all related parties, and regional Government must take note of anyone engaging in improper actions or other misconduct,” he instructed.
