President Prabowo Subianto Departs for Russia as Principal Guest of Honor at EEF
President Prabowo Subianto Tuesday (09/01) departed for Vladivostok, Russia to attend the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) as the principal guest of honor at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU).
The President and a small delegation took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in East Jakarta at approximately 11:20 p.m Western Indonesian Time.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the President’s role as principal guest of honor at the forum signals closer Indonesia–Russia relations. He added that it also highlights Indonesia’s growing strategic importance in the Asia-Pacific region and internationally.
“President Vladimir Putin personally invited President Prabowo Subianto to attend the Eastern Economic Forum as its principal guest of honor. According to Wijaya, the invitation reflects the close Indonesia–Russia relationship, which the two leaders continue to develop through direct diplomacy,” the Cabinet Secretary said in a statement.
“This is the second time President Prabowo Subianto has been invited as a guest of honor at a Russian international economic forum. The first was his participation in last year’s St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF),” Teddy added.
According to Teddy, Russia sees Indonesia as an important strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific. He also said Indonesia is also viewed as an influential ASEAN member and as a prominent representative of both the Global South and the Muslim world.
“Russia views Indonesia as a key strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific, a respected ASEAN member, and a significant nation representing the Global South and the Muslim world. This underscores Indonesia’s strategic position on the global stage,” he added.
The Cabinet Secretary also noted that the President’s visit to Vladivostok would also be used to advance more concrete, mutually beneficial cooperation between Indonesia and Russia, particularly in the economy, trade, investment, energy, and other strategic sectors.
“Indonesia’s foreign policy remains free and active. President Prabowo Subianto is building good relations with all nations and expanding friendships, while ensuring that Indonesia’s diplomacy delivers concrete benefits for the national interest and the people’s welfare,” said the Cabinet Secretary.
Accompanying the President on the flight to Vladivostok were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani; and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Among those seeing the President off were Deputy House Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad; Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait; Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) Commander Gen.
