Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi and President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Bobby Rasyidi on a press statement at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

President Prabowo Subianto Thursday (06/11) received Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi and President Director of state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Bobby Rasyidi at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

The meeting discussed a number of agendas for developing the national railway sector, ranging from station modernization to improvements in train safety.

Bobby stated that the President instructed the immediate renovation of Gambir Station, a strategic transportation hub in Jakarta.

The renovations are targeted for completion within approximately two years and will emphasize enhanced intermodal integration.

“One Gambir. Gambir will be renovated. In two years, we’ll have a new Gambir,” Bobby said, signaling a thumbs-up.

“We will integrate it with the commuter rail network,” he added in a statement to the media.

In addition to the development of Gambir Station, Bobby also reported to the President on efforts to accelerate level crossing management in order to improve the safety of both trains and road users.

He stated that PT KAI has so far closed 172 level crossings and that work is currently underway on another 490.

“We updated him on the level crossings, and we are making rapid progress,” Bobby said.

“We have already closed many of them—172 crossings have been shut, another 490 are currently being worked on, and we will soon begin work on the remaining 1,148 gates,” he added.

Bobby further explained that the Jakarta and Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) areas currently have the largest number of level crossings under construction.

The Government, together with KAI, is continuing to accelerate these improvement measures to build a rail transportation system that is safer, more reliable, and better integrated.

“The highest number is in Jakarta and the Jabodetabek areas, with around 160 crossings,” Bobby concluded.

President Prabowo Subianto’s directive underscores the Government’s commitment to building a public transportation system that is more modern, better connected, and held to higher safety standards.

Through strategic infrastructure development and faster mitigation of vulnerable areas, the Government aims to provide safer, more comfortable transportation services that will support future economic growth and enhance public mobility.  (Bureau of Press, Media, and Information of the Presidential Secretariat) (EP/LW)
