President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated on Friday (05/16) the first production of Forel and Terubuk oil fields located in Natuna Island, Riau Islands province. The inauguration was held hybrid from the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta and from the oil fields.

In his remarks, President Prabowo expressed his deepest appreciation for the first production and inauguration of oil lifting project in his administration. These were historical milestones for the national energy sector.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Indonesia, allow me to congratulate you for this achievement,” he said.

According to the President, this first oil production is an important milestone for Indonesia in its effort to achieve food self-sufficiency. He added that energy, like food self-sufficiency, is an essential prerequisite for a nation’s independence and strength.

“Once we achieve energy self-sufficiency, we can save and prevent tens of billions of US dollars or equal to hundreds of trillions of rupiah from flowing out from Indonesia. Our economy will become more robust, with more funds available for the benefit of our people,” he firmly said.

On that occasion, President Prabowo also delivered his appreciation to all relevant parties, ranging from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKK Migas), Medco Energi, to the engineers and field workers for their hard works and the exceptionally high use of local content (TKDN) in this project.

“I also noted that Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources said that these projects demonstrate the capability of Indonesia’s young generation to master oil and gas industry technology, with a local content level approaching 100 percent,” he said adding that mastering technology is essential for the future of the nation.

Furthermore, the President reminded all people to remain vigilant in dealing with other powers that do not want Indonesia to be strong and united.

The inauguration also demonstrated Indonesia’s strategic measure to strengthen national energy sector and the Government’s commitment to achieve energy security. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RAS/MMB)
