President Prabowo Subianto Joins ASEAN Leaders at Forty Eight Summit Opening Ceremony in Cebu

President Prabowo Subianto Friday (05/08) arrived at Mactan Expo, Cebu, Philippines, to attend the Opening Ceremony of the 48th ASEAN Summit.

Touching down at around 09:04 local time, the President proceeded to the foyer, where President of the Philippines Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and Mrs. Marie Louise Cacho Araneta Marcos welcomed him personally. The meeting between the two leaders was warm, highlighted by a firm handshake that symbolized the close and friendly relations between Indonesia and the Philippines.

After the greeting, President Prabowo Subianto, President Marcos Jr., and Mrs. Marie Louise Marcos posed for a photo together before President Prabowo Subianto proceeded to the waiting room to join the other leaders.

In his opening remarks, President Marcos Jr. underlined the importance of ASEAN countries upholding a shared commitment to maintain dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect amid increasingly complex global dynamics. President Marcos Jr. also stressed that the presence of ASEAN leaders at the summit embodies a collective determination to keep strengthening the region and its resilience.

“Your presence here reflects not only the urgency and importance of this event, but also our shared commitment to the values that continue to bind our region, namely dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect,” said President Marcos.

In addition, President Marcos also affirmed that the challenges currently confronting the region serves as a momentum to further strengthen unity and deepen cooperation among ASEAN countries.

“If there is one lesson that ASEAN has learned over the decades, it is that difficult times do not divide us,” he added.

The opening ceremony of the 48th ASEAN Summit concluded with a group photo session showing ASEAN country leaders standing hand in hand, symbolizing regional unity and solidarity.

In the photo session, President Prabowo Subianto stood between Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah and Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Manet.
