Regional leaders play a pivotal role in upholding good governance, according to President Prabowo Subianto.
The President made the statement at the 2025 Association of Indonesian Regency Governments (APKASI) Expo at Nusantara Hall, Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD, Tangerang, Banten province.
“You are the leaders who are close to the people. Along with district heads and village heads, you are the ones closest to the people. You are the ones who know the people,” the President said.
The President also stated that the key to the national development is the quality of governance, citing a lesson from the governance of the Ottoman Empire, which emphasized the importance of leadership and good governance. According to the President, these principles remain relevant today in shaping regional leaders who are loyal to the nation.
“You must uphold the principle of clean and fair governance. If not, you will not succeed. This applies at every level,” the President said.
President Prabowo further said that the mandate to uphold clean governance does not only apply to himself as President but also to all regional leaders, including village and subdistrict heads. He reminded the leaders that corrupt governance will never bring prosperity to the nation.
“I must uphold clean and just governance. This is my duty. This is also the duty of all regents, mayors, district heads, village heads, and subdistrict heads. A corrupt government can never bring prosperity to the people,” the President remarked.
