President Prabowo Subianto Monday (8/25) presided over a limited meeting with Vice President Gibran Rakabuming and several ministers of the Red and White Cabinet at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

The meeting discussed, among other things, evaluation of the current 2025 economic program and preparation of policy prospects for 2026 to boost national economic growth.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia reported to the President regarding the village electrification program as one of the main focuses of the meeting.

To date, thousands of villages and hamlets in Indonesia have not been electrified.

“From the energy side, we will electrify 5,700 villages and 4,400 hamlets. This target will be accomplished by 2029-2030. The budget is still being calculated but starting in 2025 in the revised budget, and in 2026, the budget will be included,” Bahlil said.

Bahli also said this village electrification program is a tangible action of the state’s presence in serving the poor in remote areas.

The President Bahlil said, firmly ordered the immediate allocation of the budget.

“We told Mr. President that such matter of the poor cannot be calculated economically. So, this requires the presence of the state. The President then instructed to put this in budgeting immediately,” he stated.

In addition to village electrification, the meeting also discussed regulating energy subsidies to be on target.

The Government plans to implement a community-based mechanism with controlled fuel quotas, particularly subsidized diesel.

“It’ll be community-based (mechanism) but targeting diesel fuel up to diesel-7 or diesel-8. So, we’ll control the quota. The data will be a single source from the Statistics Indonesia (BPS). We’ll discuss the technical details after the state budget is ratified,” Bahlil concluded. BPMI of the Presidential Secretariat) (JAS/EP)
