President Prabowo Subianto Leads Meeting as Special Economic Zones Surpass 2024 Investment and Employment Targets

President Prabowo Subianto Tuesday (07/22) led a limited meeting to discuss the development of Special Economic Zones (KEK) with several Red and White Cabinet ministers at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

The meeting was held in a hybrid format, with President Prabowo, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, several red and white cabinet ministers, and KEK representatives attending in person at the Merdeka Palace, while other KEK representatives from various regions across the country joined via video conference.

During the meeting, the Government highlighted significant achievements of KEKs throughout 2024 that exceeded investment and employment targets.

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani reported that total investments of KEK from January to December 2024 reached Rp90,1 trillion, far surpassing the initial target of Rp. 78,1 trillion.

“From January to December 2024, the total investment of KEKs is Rp. 90,1 trillion, exceeding the target of Rp. 78,1 trillion. So, we surpassed the 2024 target,” Rosan said to the press after the meeting.

Not only in terms of investment, but employment in the KEKs also showed a good number.  Throughout 2024, a total of 47.747 workers were employed, exceeding the initial target of 38.953.

“Employment in 2024 reached 47.747, surpassing the target of 38.953,” stated Rosan.

Rosan added that 72 new businesses began operating in the KEKs in 2024. Cumulatively, from 2012 to 2024, KEKs have attracted a total investment of Rp. 263,4 trillion with 403 business entity, and created jobs for 160.874 workers.

“Overall, from 2012 to 2024, the cumulative achievement of KEKs is Rp. 263,4 trillion in investment with 403 business entity, and job creation for 160.874 workers,” Rosan concluded. (Bureau of Press, Media, and Information of the Presidential Secretariat) (TCUD/EP)
