President Prabowo Subianto Monday (12/01) arrived at Bambel Baru village flood shelter in Southeast Aceh regency to check on residents affected by the current flash floods.
Thousands of people gathered at the site, hoping to see the President.
The severe flooding forced at least 4,080 residents to leave their homes after rapidly rising waters submerged their neighborhoods and public facilities.
Emergency tents, health posts, public kitchens, and logistics hubs have been operating continuously to support displaced residents.
As he walked through the area, the President greeted the residents with smiles and words of encouragement. Children cheered when the President stopped to shake their hands, sharing a few warm moments.
The President also listened directly to the residents’ concerns, including damaged homes, limited access to clean water, and medical services.
“We are deeply concerned and wish to extend our condolences to the victims. Insyallah, the weather is improving. Let’s continue to pray,” the President said.
In response, the residents appreciated his visit, saying it gave them renewed hope during this difficult time.
The President’s visit underscored the Government’s commitment to staying close to the people, responding swiftly to safeguard lives, and ensuring access to essential needs such as food, healthcare, and shelter throughout the emergency period. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/EP)
