President Prabowo Subianto Pays Respects at Qatar Embassy Following Passing of Former Emir

President Prabowo Subianto Wednesday (07/12) paid his respects at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Jakarta, writing a message of sympathy in the book of condolence following the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Emir of Qatar.

The President arrived at the embassy at approximately 12.40 Western Indonesia Time.

Upon his arrival, the President was directly welcomed by Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono and Qatar Ambassador for Indonesia Sultan bin Mubarak Saad Al-Dosari.

The Head of State then proceeded to the room where the book of condolence was placed and recorded his message. In his note, he conveyed his deep condolences and offered prayers for the late Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

“On behalf of the Indonesian people and the Government, our deepest condolences on the passing of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala grant him His mercy and receive him into His loving embrace,” the President wrote.

The President’s message in the book of condolence underscored Indonesia’s tribute to the late Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. It also reflected the long-standing, close relationship between Indonesia and Qatar, which has been steadily strengthened over the years.

For the record, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani passed away on Sunday (7/12) at the age of 74 years. He served as the Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013, before being succeeded by his son, the current Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RD/EP)
