President Prabowo Subianto Wednesday (07/03) performed umrah pilgrimage in the holy city of Mecca as part of his state visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

Upon arrival at the al-Haram holy mosque, the President was warmly welcomed by pilgrims from Indonesia and responded with a wave of his hands as a gesture of greeting and respect.

Afterward, the Head of State entered the Kaaba—a sacred structure at the center of the mosque toward which Muslims face during the five daily prayers—and performed salah, and upon stepping out, he performed the sunnah (the practices of Prophet Muhammad) of kissing the Hajar al-Aswad, a sacred black stone encased with silver believed to have descended from heaven.

The President then circled the Kaaba seven times to perform tawaf (circumambulation), and upon finishing the ritual, once again greeted Indonesian pilgrims who were around the mosque.

His pilgrimage continued with sa’i, which involved walking or running between the hills of Safa and Marwa seven times, and ended with tahalul, or cutting one’s hair.

This spiritual journey not only demonstrated the President’s personal devotion but also reinforced the spiritual bond between the leaders and the peoples of Indonesia and the special relations between Indonesia and the KSA. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/EP)
