Chairperson of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) Yahya Cholil Staquf delivers a press statement following a meeting with President Prabowo at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (02/03).

President Prabowo Subianto has reiterated Indonesia’s steadfast commitment to supporting Palestinian independence through active participation in the Board of Peace (BoP).

The President conveyed this commitment to leaders of community organizations, Islamic figures, and heads of Islamic boarding schools during a gathering at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (02/03).

Chairperson of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) Yahya Cholil Staquf stated that the President had provided a comprehensive explanation of Indonesia’s continuous efforts and unwavering stance in supporting the Palestinian cause.

The PBNU Chairperson also highlighted that, in terms of values and principles, Indonesia has remained consistently upheld in its rejection of colonialism and its commitment to advocating for Palestinian independence.

“At the level of values, I believe we all agree that rejecting colonialism and supporting independence for all nations is a mandate of the Proclamation. At the level of principles, we all agree that Indonesia must assist, defend, and continue to support Palestine until it achieves independence,” he said.

During the meeting, President Prabowo Subianto also presented realistic and strategic policy considerations in advancing Palestinian independence, including through Indonesia’s participation in the BoP.

The Chairperson added that this approach is being pursued in conjunction with engagement efforts involving Islamic and Middle Eastern countries that are also part of the BoP.

“So that every action taken within the Board constitutes a consolidated effort among countries whose participation is driven by a shared commitment to defending and supporting Palestine,” he said.

Yahya also noted that the President underscored the need for prudence to ensure that any measures taken would not adversely affect the Palestinian people.

“The President affirmed that all actions would be undertaken with great caution,  guided by the non-negotiable principle of protecting, defending, and supporting the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza, and that this commitment would subsequently be broadened to encompass Palestinians in the West Bank,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Anwar Iskandar conveyed the President’s strong commitment to advancing Palestinian independence through the BoP.

According to him, Indonesia, together with other Islamic countries, will continue to ensure that the BoP operates  effectively so that it delivers tangible benefits for Palestine and contributes to global peace.

“First and foremost, the President is firmly committed to actively advocating within the Board of Peace for a fully independent and sovereign Palestine. In addition, he remains committed to continuing efforts through the Board of Peace to help alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza,” he said.

Echoing this view, Chairperson of Wahdah Islamiyah Muhammad Zaitun Rasmin stated that leaders of Islamic organizations have expressed their support to the President, emphasizing that Indonesia’s efforts must not only promote peace but also advance Palestinian independence.

“The President welcomed this positively and expressed appreciation for these views, stating that, ultimately, God willing, all of these efforts are for Palestine and also for us in Indonesia,” he said. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/EP)
