President Prabowo Subianto Monday (09/29) affirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening the people’s economy through a range of programs in cooperatives, housing, fisheries, agriculture, and education during the closing of the 6th National Congress of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) National in Jakarta.
According to the President, the Government has established Red and White Cooperatives in 80,000 villages and subdistricts nationwide. These cooperatives are designed to accelerate the distribution of goods, absorb local production, and provide essential necessities to communities at affordable prices.
“The goods will be sourced at the lowest possible prices to speed up the distribution chain and absorb local production within the village,” he said.
In the housing sector, the Government has provided financial facilities for loans, increasing the number of beneficiaries to 350,000 people.
“We will build hundreds of thousands of houses. Although this cannot be completed immediately but rather over weeks or even months, it will demonstrate our commitment to the people. Unutilized state-owned land will be allocated for public housing,” he added.
During the event, the Government also announced plans to develop 100 fishing villages, expanding the total to 2,000 by next year. Supported by the development of ice factories, ports, and cold storage facilities, this program aims to enhance the welfare of 16 millions of fishers and families nationwide.
In Papua, pilot fishing village projects have reportedly increased fishers’ income by 60-100 percent. Additionally, the Government will establish 20,000 hectares of fishing ponds in Pantura, West Java province which are projected to create 130,000 new obs.
In addition, President Prabowo Subianto also lauded the achievement of creating 480,000 new paddy fields, with 280,000 hectares already completed, resulting in the highest rice production ever recorded in Indonesia’s history.
“Therefore, I allocated 100 new warehouses for the State Logistics Agency (Bulog),” he stated.
The Head of State also emphasized the urgent need to improve teachers’ welfare, noting that working allowances for non-tenured teachers are now directly transferred to recipients’ bank account without any deduction. The Government has also built 20 Garuda Excellent Schools, 80 Garuda Transformation Excellent Schools, 6 Taruna Nusantara Senior High Schools, and plans to establish 20 polytechnics in underdeveloped regions.
Additionally, 165 Sekolah Rakyat (the people’s school) have been established, with a target of reaching 500 locations. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RAS/EP)
