President Prabowo Subianto Wednesday (08/26) visited survivors of the East Nusa Tenggara earthquake at an evacuation center at Berdikari Field in Nagekeo regency, around 30 kilometers from the epicenter of the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck on August 15.

At the evacuation center, the President visited the community kitchen, greeted volunteers preparing meals for evacuees, reviewed the menu at the Indonesian National Police’s emergency kitchen, and met with survivors in the evacuation tents.

“I came to review the measures that have been taken, and I extend my deepest condolences to the people of Flores and other disaster-affected areas, especially those who lost their family members,” he said.

On that occasion, the President reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to continue monitoring the situation and implementing post-disaster response in the province, while urging residents to remain calm and vigilant.

“This is a natural disaster. We must remain alert and learn to take appropriate precautions. Experts say it may take up to three more weeks before conditions become relatively safe, so we must be patient. After that, we will begin building temporary shelters and rehabilitating homes,” he stated, noting that the Government will ensure the post-disaster response is carried out properly.

“Rest assured, the Government will not leave you alone. We are here for you, and we will continue to help you,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/EP)
