President Prabowo Subianto Welcomes Indian Prime Minister, Underscores Growing Indonesia-India Strategic Partnership

President Prabowo Subianto Monday (07/06) welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Indonesia, underscoring the strengthening ties between the two countries.

The Indian PM’s visit is part of a three-day state trip to Indonesia.

As a mark of respect, the aircraft carrying the Indian Prime Minister was escorted by three F-16 fighter jets and two Sukhoi jets upon entering Indonesian airspace.

The aircraft landed at approximately 5:20 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta.

The President personally welcomed Prime Minister Modi at the foot of the aircraft stairs, a gesture reflecting Indonesia’s close ties with and respect for India. The two leaders then shook hands and exchanged warm smiles.

The two leaders then proceeded side by side past the honor guard, accompanied by instrumental music from the military band and a six-gun salute.

Also present to welcome Prime Minister Modi were Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Ambassador of India to Indonesia Shri Sandeep Chakravorty, Ambassador of India to ASEAN Shri Srinivas Gotru, and India’s Defense Attaché to Indonesia, Captain Shiv Kumar.

The welcoming atmosphere was further enriched by a performance of traditional Indonesian dances accompanied by live music, reflecting the country’s hospitality and rich cultural heritage.

Prime Minister Modi appeared to enjoy the performance and expressed his appreciation.

Their presence together throughout the welcoming procession at the airport reflected the warm personal rapport and mutual respect between the two leaders.

This state visit provides an important opportunity to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Indonesia and India across a range of sectors.

During his stay, the Indian Prime Minister is scheduled to attend a series of official engagements with President Prabowo Subianto, including a formal welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, bilateral meetings, and discussions on various areas of strategic cooperation of mutual interest.

This visit also carries historical significance, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second visit to Indonesia since his previous trip in 2018.

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1951, Indonesia and India have continued to deepen their partnership as two major democracies in Asia, with cooperation spanning trade, investment, defense, maritime security, energy, technology, education, and people-to-people ties.
