President Prabowo Subianto pushed the acceleration program of 100-gigawatt solar power plant (PLTS). This was conveyed by the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto in a press statement to the media at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday (4/21).

Brian said that the President specifically requested to accelerate the program implementation, particularly in replacing diesel-based power plant (PLTD). “Mr. President asked the progress and requested for expedited programs, particularly diesel power,” he said in a statement after the meeting.

According to him, this year the Government is optimistically targeting the addition of 17 gigawatts of renewable energy through PLTS on a national scale. The target includes an additional capacity of PLTS and a decreased PLTD.

“This year, it targets to decrease 10-gigawatt PLTD while increasing other powers by 7 gigawatts,” he said.

“Considering the calculation made jointly by Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Indonesia state-owned electric utility company (PLN), Danantara (Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Board), and several experts from universities, it can reach around 17 gigawatts of PLTS installation,” he said.

Regarding the technical implementation and location for PLTS installation, Brian said that PLN will act as the main executor of the program. “The location will be determined by PLN as the main executor of the program,” he said.

This acceleration does not only focus on reaching the target of capacities but also defining Indonesia’s position as the key player in clean energy transformation in the region. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (JAS/LW)
