Following bilateral meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Thailand’s Prime Minister (PM) Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta on Monday (08/03), President Prabowo highlighted that the PM’s official visit to Indonesia serves as a critical momentum to enhance bilateral relations between Indonesia and Thailand, as well as strengthen both countries’ roles in maintaining regional stability.

“This is our second Leaders’ Consultation since Indonesia and Thailand elevated our bilateral relations to strategic partnership last year. It reflects our expanding and forward-looking partnership,” the President said.

The President explained that the meeting holds strategic importance as Indonesia and Thailand are founders of ASEAN and among Southeast Asia’s largest economies. Therefore, the strong ties between the two countries will have major influences on developments in Southeast Asia.

On the occasion, both leaders engaged in a thorough discussion of bilateral, regional, and global issues. “As the founders of ASEAN, Indonesia and Thailand held common responsibilities to maintain peace, stability, and security, as well as create prosperity in the region,” the President said.

He also added that both countries agreed to enhance political and security ties, especially in combating transnational crimes.

“Indonesia and Thailand must continuously take a leadership role in bolstering ASEAN security and relevance. For this reason, we believe in strengthening political and security cooperation, especially against various transnational crimes, including online scam,” he said.

President Prabowo also expressed appreciation to the Government of Thailand for its support in facilitating the repatriation of Indonesian citizens who have fallen victims to online scamming.

“This support means a lot. It reflects the close ties between Indonesia and Thailand. Once more, Your Excellency, in the name of the Indonesian nation, I would like to convey my utmost gratitude and appreciation,” he concluded.  (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/TM)
