President Prabowo to Give Rp3 Billion Bonus to Asian Games XX Gold Medalists

President Prabowo Subianto said Wednesday (09/09) that Indonesian athletes who win gold medals at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya will receive a Rp3 billion bonus, up from the Rp1 billion awarded to gold medalists at the previous SEA Games.
“At the SEA Games, a gold medal comes with a Rp1 billion bonus. But this is the Asian Games. A gold medal comes with Rp3 billion,” the President said in his remarks as he sent off the Indonesian contingent to the Asian Games at the State Palace in Jakarta.
Besides bonuses for gold medalists, the President said the Government would also support silver and bronze medalists, as well as their coaches. He called for their career advancement to be accelerated.
“For silver and bronze medalists, we will also speed up their promotions. Some have said, ‘Sir, I haven’t been promoted for years.’ This includes the coaches, too,” he said.
According to the President, achievements and service should be properly rewarded. He stressed that the state should not hesitate to honor those who have made the nation proud.
“Don’t be stingy. If they have done good, we should honor them,” he said firmly.
The President also shared the story of an equestrian athlete who competed at the previous SEA Games despite suffering a rib injury just days before the event. The athlete, he added, refused to be replaced because he wanted to continue fighting for the nation’s honor and ultimately helped his team win a medal.
“This person didn’t want to take the safe or easy way. He thought about the honor of his country. This is one example that makes us proud,” the President said.
The President also said that the athlete serves in the Indonesian Army. In recognition of his bravery and achievement, the President ordered TNI leadership to promote him.
The President expressed hope that all Indonesian athletes competing in Aichi-Nagoya would carry the same spirit with them. He concluded his remarks with a prayer.
“Best of luck. May God Almighty always give you strength and the best results,” he concluded. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/AW)
