President Prabowo, UK Government’s International Education Champion Discuss Enhanced Education Cooperation

President Prabowo Subianto received the UK Government’s International Education Champion Professor Sir Steve Smith, British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey, and representatives of the Russell Group — a network of 24 of the best universities in the UK, at his residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java Province, on Friday (5/30).

According to Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, the meeting discussed several strategies to enhance the partnership between the two countries, with cooperation between the two countries’ universities as one of the main focuses.

“Some of the best universities in the UK are very interested in establishing campuses in Indonesia,” said the Cabinet Secretary.

Moreover, according to the Cabinet Secretary, President Prabowo also encouraged more Indonesian students to enroll in the UK’s top universities, both located in England and in Indonesia.

The meeting also discussed research cooperation between professors and researchers from both countries, with a focus on themes related to national strategic issues, national development, and Asta Cita, such as downstream.

“The meeting also discussed future cooperation between Indonesian and British researchers or professors, especially on the downstreaming of 28 priority natural resources in Indonesia, as outlined by Asta Cita,” concluded the Cabinet Secretary.

Also attending the meeting were Professor Helen Bailey from Queen Mary University of London, Professor Funmi Olonisakin from King’s College London, Professor Tariq Ali from the University of Liverpool, and British Council Country Director for Indonesia, Mr. Summer Xia.
