President Prabowo Subianto Wednesday (10/29) called on the Indonesian National Police to continue strengthening professionalism and remain close to the people.

“I would like to express my highest appreciation to all members of the Indonesian National Police wherever they are,” President Prabowo said in his remarks at a ceremony to destroy narcotics evidence held at Bhayangkara field, National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta.

The Head of State said that since the beginning of his administration, he has tasked the National Police Chief with three major priorities: combating drug trafficking, smuggling, and online gambling.

“I noted, alhamdulillah, that the police have been working earnestly,” he said, adding that the police must put aside sectoral egos and excessive institutional loyalty, emphasizing that inter-agency collaboration is essential to maintaining security and upholding the law.

President Prabowo also highlighted public perceptions of the police, noting that criticism of large institutions is natural but should not obscure the fact that the police remain at the forefront of law enforcement.

“I see that all around the globe, police are often criticized and blamed as their duty is to maintain order,” the President said.

Furthermore, President Prabowo underscored that the police must be part of the people and work together with them to detect and prevent crime.

“I always remind everyone that soldiers must be the people’s soldiers, and police must be the people’s police. The people must become the eyes and ears, reporting to village heads and community leaders,” he added.

On the occasion, President Prabowo also delivered a moral message to all police personnel, urging them to remain steadfast in the face of criticism.

“A servant of the nation, a Bhayangkara, often does good without thanks. Still, one small mistake will never be forgotten,” the Head of State remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (GWH/MUR)
