President Prabowo Urges Public to Remain Calm, Vigilant Amidst Anak Krakatau’s Volcanic Activity
President Prabowo Subianto urged people, particularly those in Jakarta, Banten, and Lampung provinces and in areas around the Sunda strait, to remain calm and vigilant and to follow the directions of the Government and officials amid Anak Krakatau’s volcanic activity.
The President posted the statement on the official Instagram account, @presidenrepublikindonesia, on Sunday (9/6). He also urged people to keep their distance from Anak Krakatau and to follow the danger zone and safe limits set by officials.
“All people, particularly our brothers and sisters in Jakarta, Banten, and Lampung provinces and around the area of the Sunda strait to remain calm and vigilant,” the President wrote.
He explained that the Government had monitored Anak Krakatau’s volcanic activity and received reports and updates from the officials. He had instructed the Government institutions to ensure mitigation processes and people’s protection run optimally.
“All government institutions, including National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Indonesian National Defense Force (TNI), Indonesian National Police (Polri), regional governments, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Transportation, and other related ministries and agencies, are to continue monitoring the situation, ensuring mitigation processes and people’s protection and assistance run optimally” the President continued.
In addition, President Prabowo reminded people of the effects of volcanic ash, staying healthy, using face masks or respiratory protection, reducing outdoor activities, and following instructions from health officers and regional governments.
In his message, the President also offered a prayer for Indonesians to be protected, particularly the affected communities around Anak Krakatau and the Sunda strait.
“I wish the Almighty God always protects all Indonesians, particularly our brothers and sisters around Anak Krakatau and the Sunda strait.”
The President emphasized to remain vigilant in monitoring the situation and to take every decision and measure needed to ensure the safety of the people.
