President Prabowo Visits Displaced Residents, Orders Educational Recovery in Nagekeo, E. Nusa Tenggara

President Prabowo Subianto, on Wednesday (08/26), visited displaced residents affected by the earthquake at the evacuation tents in Berdikari Field, Nagekeo regency, East Nusa Tenggara province. During the visit, the President met with displaced residents, listened to their concerns, and interacted with children.

The residents gathered to welcome the President, with some reaching out to shake his hand and others embracing him. Children also gathered around the President, who took the time to greet them and interact with them amid the evacuation tents.

President Prabowo came to Nagekeo to directly observe the conditions of communities affected by the earthquake. During this visit, the President spoke with residents, greeted children, and distributed toys to them.

One by one, the children reached out their hands to receive the toys brought by the President. The interaction brought a sense of joy to the evacuation site, which had served as a temporary shelter for affected residents over the past several days.

For the children, their lives changed in a matter of seconds when a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck on August 15, 2026. They had to leave their homes, while their schooling and daily activities were also disrupted. The evacuation tents have since become places for them to eat, rest, meet their friends, and wait for conditions to become safe again.

For this reason, attention to children remains critical to the recovery process. At evacuation sites, various activities have been prepared to ensure that children continue to have opportunities to play, draw, interact with others, and temporarily ease the tension following the disaster.

“We’ve prepared measures for repairs and temporary arrangements so that schools can reopen as soon as possible. For safety reasons, schools may initially operate in tents,” the President said, adding that the Government will not leave out affected communities and continue with the recovery.

Before meeting the residents, the President had led a meeting to receive reports on the progress of post-disaster response efforts.
