President Prabowo Welcomes Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim at Merdeka Palace

The close relations between Indonesia and Malaysia were further strengthened through the working visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, on Tuesday (7/29). This visit created important momentum for both countries to reinforce their strategic cooperation across various sectors.

PM Anwar arrived at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, and was greeted by a guard of honor and music corps of the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres). Upon exiting his vehicle, Dato’ Seri Anwar was warmly welcomed by President Prabowo Subianto. The smiles and handshakes exchanged by the two leaders reflected the long-standing friendship between the two kindred nations.

Before entering the credentials room, President Prabowo introduced the Indonesian delegation present at the meeting. The delegation included: Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Head of the State Intelligence Agency Muhammad Herindra, and Vice Minister of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Dzulfikar Ahmad Tawalla.

Shortly after, PM Anwar introduced the Malaysian delegation accompanying him on this visit. Following the introductions, both leaders proceeded to the credentials room for a joint photo session, symbolizing mutual respect and the strengthening of diplomatic relations.

The agenda continued with a tête-à-tête meeting in President Prabowo’s office. “Thank you, Dato’ Seri, we meet again, this is the second time in a month,” President Prabowo said in his opening statement.

After the tête-à-tête, the two leaders held a bilateral meeting involving delegates from both countries as part of the annual consultation meeting. The meeting took place in a warm atmosphere over a luncheon at the Merdeka Palace.

This visit marked a significant milestone in strengthening the mutually beneficial Indonesia–Malaysia partnership and reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to maintaining stability and prosperity in the Southeast Asian region.
