President Prabowo Subianto on Tuesday (30/09) welcomed MotoGP Champion Marc Marquez and two young Indonesian motorcycle racers Mario Aji and Veda Ega, at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. Not only did it show a friendly gesture, but the meeting also marked a significant momentum to strengthen Indonesia’s steadfast commitment to developing sports tourism and promoting new generations of Indonesian racers.

Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir underlined the meaning behind the meeting, which was of particular importance for Indonesia’s future in sports. He mentioned that Marc Marquez’s visit was an honor that marked the vital role of sports tourism for the nation’s development.

“Alhamdulillah (thank God), President Prabowo had a meeting with Marc Marquez. Mr. Marquez expressed gratitude to meet Mr. President. We believe that Indonesia needs to develop sports tourism even further. The development will promote not only sports but also a whole economy,” said Erick Thohir to the press.

In addition, he also noted the President’s message to young Indonesian motorcycle racers Mario Aji and Veda Ega Pratama. The President expressed hope that both of the racers are seen as symbols of the rebirth of a new generation of racers who can compete at an international level.

“That was President Prabowo’s message to Mario Aji and Veda for their future career. Especially, we still have a contract with MotoGP until 2031. This is an opportunity not only to witness but to prepare the young generations. Recently, Mario has been racing in Moto2, and Veda is going to Moto3. This is what we hope for,” said Erick.

Meanwhile, Marc Marquez, who won his championship three days ago, showed happiness to be back in Indonesia. He noted that Mandalika is the perfect circuit to celebrate his championship with fans.

“I am so super happy to be back in Indonesia after being the world champion three days ago. It will be the first GP circuit after being champion, and I would like to enjoy it a lot. I know that I have a lot of fans here, and it is the best circuit and the best country to enjoy, so let’s enjoy the Mandalika GP,” said Marquez.
