President Prabowo Subianto received Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who was making a working visit, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Friday (02/06).

This visit marked an important moment to reaffirm the close bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Australia as neighboring countries and strategic partners in the Indo-Pacific region.

During the joint press statement, President Prabowo warmly welcomed PM Albanese back to Jakarta. The President emphasized that the visit also provided an opportunity to reciprocate the gracious reception he received during his visit to Australia back in November last year.

“I am very pleased to once again welcome my friend Prime Minister Albanese to Jakarta. This visit also provides me with the opportunity to reciprocate the hospitable welcome I received during my visit to Sydney in November 2025,” President Prabowo said.

On the occasion, President Prabowo conveyed his congratulations on Australia Day and emphasized the long-standing historical ties between Indonesia and Australia.

“Australia is among Indonesia’s closest neighbors and strategic partners. Our two countries enjoy a long history of friendship. We continue to remember Australia’s support for Indonesia’s struggle for independence since the proclamation in 1945,” the President said.

Meanwhile, PM Albanese expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome extended by President Prabowo and the Government of Indonesia. He highlighted that Indonesia holds great significance for Australia in terms of prosperity, security, and regional stability.

“Thank you, Mr. President. And, thank you for your generous words and your very warm welcome here to Jakarta, my friend. I am very pleased to be back here for my fifth visit as Prime Minister of Australia. No country is more important to Australia, or to the prosperity, security, and stability of the Indo-Pacific, than Indonesia,” PM Albanese said.

PM Albanese also underscored the strong trust that has been firmly established between the two countries as neighbors and close partners. He also conveyed his empathy and solidarity to those affected by the floods and landslides that have hit several regions in Indonesia.

“In this spirit of friendship, I extend Australia’s condolences to the Indonesian people for all those lost in the tragic flooding and landslides in Sumatra last year and West Java just last month. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families,” PM Albanese said.

The working visit demonstrates the strong commitment of Indonesia and Australia to deepen strategic cooperation founded on mutual trust, friendship, and shared interests in promoting stability and peace in the Indo-Pacific region. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/TM)
