President Prabowo Welcomes TVS Motor Company to Develop EVs in Indonesia
President Prabowo Subianto, on Thursday (09/17), received executives of the Indian automotive company TVS at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. The meeting focused on TVS’ investment expansion plans in Indonesia, including factory expansion and the development of electric and ethanol-powered motorcycles.
Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry/ Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani, who accompanied President Prabowo on the occasion, noted that TVS has previously invested in Indonesia to manufacture various types of vehicles, ranging from motorcycles and scooters to three-wheelers.
“I accompanied Mr. President to receive guests from the Indian company TVS, which has already invested here in motorcycles, scooters, and three-wheelers. They intend to expand their manufacturing facility and [introduce] not only EV [powered], but also begin implementing ethanol fuel,” Rosan stated in his remarks to the press following the meeting.
During the meeting, the TVS executive board outlined the company’s expansion plans while exploring potential further cooperation in Indonesia. The top management, including the CEO, also attended the audience with President Prabowo in person.
“We discussed their plans and potential collaboration. The chairman and the CEO were both present, so this was primarily a courtesy visit to Mr. President,” Rosan stated.
One of the main focuses of the expansion discussed was two-wheeled vehicles powered by more diversified technologies. Alongside electric vehicles, TVS plans to develop ethanol-powered motorcycles as part of its boarder investment strategy in Indonesia.
Rosan explained that these initiatives will involve relevant Government agencies to support the technology development of both electric and ethanol-powered vehicles.
“The cooperation focuses on the development of electric motorcycles and ethanol-powered motorcycles, which will also involve a team from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology to advance this ethanol-powered technology,” Rosan added.
This meeting further affirmed the Government’s ongoing commitment to attracting high-quality investment, strengthening the national automotive industry, and accelerating the development of more environmentally friendly vehicles across Indonesia (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (NST/MMB)
