President Receives North, South Korean Leaders Ahead of 2018 Asian Games

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo received a courtesy call from South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-Yon  and North Korean Deputy Prime Minister Ri Ryong Nam at Cofftea House, Gelora Bung Karno sports complex, Jakarta, on Saturday (18/8).

On that occasion, President Jokowi appreciated North Korea and South Korea for forming a joint contingent in the 18th Asian Games 2018 to be held in Palembang and Jakarta from 18th August to 2nd September 2018.

“The Asian Games is a crucial moment to strengthenpeace and friendship between South Korea and North Korea,” President Jokowi said in the meeting as quoted by Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media of the Secretariat of the President, Bey Machmudin on Saturday (18/8).

The President also expressed that Indonesia is hoping recent positive developments can be followed up to bring stability and peace at the Korean Peninsula in the near future.

“Indonesia consistently supports peace and stability at the Korean Peninsula,” President Jokowi firmly said.

Also accompanying President Jokowi in that meeting were Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, and Minister of State Secretary Pratikno. (BPMI Setpres/ES) (RAS/MMB/Naster)
