Special Staffer to the President Billy Mambrasar represents Indonesia at the 2020 Y20 Youth Summit held on 15 to 18 October 2020, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The summit is a youth forum aimed at providing recommendations for policy formulation to leaders of the G20 countries.
In a written statement released on Saturday (17/10), Billy said that he involved in the youth empowerment committee. The committee, he added, has a duty to ensure that educational, training and employment opportunities for young people in the G20 member countries are available in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Indonesian delegates have asked all G20 countries to mobilize their resources, including finance, technology, and the right policies to ensure that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic does not result in higher unemployment of young people,” Billy said.
Billy, who attended the forum virtually, said that the policies taken by the leaders of the G20 countries in the midst of the pandemic should stimulate economic sectors through business and entrepreneurship to provide employment.
“I (also) deliver a presentation about Indonesia, and (conveyed) the goodwill of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to improve the investment climate by simplifying Job Creation Law,” Billy said, adding that the Indonesian Government’s efforts to create a favorable business climate and more job opportunities have received a warm welcome from the youth delegates from other G20 countries.
Billy went on to say that the Y20 Summit is one of the most influential international diplomatic forums for young leaders, and the only officially recognized platform for young people to engage more with the G20. The recommendations from the Indonesian delegates as well as from other countries’ delegates would be formulated in a joint communiqué to be delivered to the leaders of the G20 countries.
He further said that the 2020 Y20 Summit marks the culmination of the work of youth delegates from the G20 countries. “For the first time, the Y20 presents this summit to a global audience,” Billy said. (Office of the Special Staff to the President /UN)
