The President has many agenda during his visit yesterday to this day. The last agenda was a meeting with King Charles III. What did they discuss about, sir?
Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia (Teddy Indra Wijaya)
Okay, let me explain quickly because he (a reporter) is already shivering. Today, 21 January 2026, the President concluded his working visit in the United Kingdom. There were several meetings; the first one was with Prime Minister Starmer. In total, there were three meetings.
First, there was an agreement in the investment sector under which the United Kingdom is committed to investing £4 billion in Indonesia; second, an agreement to strengthen maritime cooperation; and third, an agreement for the manufacturing of 1,582 fishing vessels.
What is particularly noteworthy is this: the fishing vessels, according to Minister of Maritime Affairs, will employ 600,000 workers. Why? Because the units will be produced and assembled in Indonesia. Around 30,000 workers will be assigned as ship crew, while approximately 400,000 jobs will be created in the manufacturing process. In addition, an estimated 170,000 jobs will arise from multiplier effects beyond those directly involved. That is the first point.
Second, the President yesterday met with 24 professors from 24 leading universities in the UK, namely from the King’s College, University of Oxford, Imperial College, University of Edinburgh, and other 20 more universities. Here’s the thing. There will be cooperation in education sector. The President is planning to establish 10 new campuses in Indonesia, focusing in medical science and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). We expect to have cooperation with professors from those UK leading universities. We also hope to add the number of Indonesian students pursuing a degree in the UK, to establish British university campuses in Indonesia, -we already have one (university) in Singosari, and to conduct lecturer exchange programs. Thus, professors from UK universities will work and teach at universities in Indonesia.
Third, President Prabowo Subianto met with the UK’s Minister of Education along with representatives of the Russell Group, and important figures of those universities. This step is expected to help improve the global rankings of Indonesian universities.
On the sidelines of the visit, the President held a coordination meeting, -not a formal meeting, but a coordination meeting with the Task Force for the Restoration of Forest Areas (Satgas PKH) in Jakarta), which was established in January 2025, two months after the President’s inauguration. What was the purpose of yesterday’s meeting? Following the meeting and after receiving the Task Force’s report, the President decided to revoke the licenses of companies that were proven to have committed violations. In total, this involved 22 companies in the forestry sector and 6 mining companies that had caused environmental damage.

How about the meeting with King Charles, sir?
Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia (Teddy Indra Wijaya)
The President met with King Charles III. The meeting focused on cooperation and commitment from the UK to helping Indonesia improves the ecosystem and enhances the recovery of 57 national parks in Indonesia. There are ongoing conservation efforts in Way Kambas National Park for elephants. The cooperation also includes conservation in Peusangan district, Aceh province, which was President Prabowo’s land that had been relinquished to the state and managed by the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) for elephant conservation years ago.
Reporter
So how large is the land area, sir?
Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia (Teddy Indra Wijaya)
The total land area is 90,000 hectares spread across several locations, but not all of them will be used for elephant conservation. The WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) will decide which area is for elephants and which other area is for other ecosystems.
One more thing, the main point is that in every overseas working visit, the President is focused on delivering concrete outcomes. He wants tangible products, measurable results, and clear positive impacts for Indonesia. As mentioned earlier, even within a two-day visit, the President is committed to ensuring that Indonesia gains benefits as quickly and as significantly as possible. That is the essence of his approach.

Besides attending the WEF, does President has another plan to meet with global leaders when visiting Davos, for example, bilateral meeting with heads of states?
Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia (Teddy Indra Wijaya)
We will confirm it when we get there. One thing is certain: President Prabowo will go to Davos, Switzerland on the 22nd to attend and deliver a speech at the World Economic Forum, which will be attended by more than 65 heads of states and governments, as well as 1,000 CEOs of major global companies.
Basically, President Prabowo will talk about concepts of economic thinking that he has and been implementing, both before becoming President and since becoming President up to now. President Prabowo will also convey the achievements of his administration so far. President calls this Prabowonomics, you will see it tomorrow.
Okay, I think that’s enough for today. Thank you all. Everyone is freezing [pointed at reporters]. (RAS/MMB)
