Press Statement of President of the Republic of Indonesia After the Inspection of Lacaria Market, North Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province, May 14, 2024
President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):
Yes, the prices I’m seeing are significant, particularly for rice. I was surprised that local rice was sold for Rp11,000 for medium and Rp13,000 for premium. These prices are pretty reasonable.
Reporter:
Could you please share an update on the stock?
President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):
There’s no issue with the stock. The State Logistics Agency (Bulog) currently holds 1.8 million tons, substantially increasing from the usual 1.2 million tons. This ample stock ensures that there are no issues to worry about.
Reporter:
Please provide an update on the price stability of other foods as we approach the Eid al-Adha celebration.
President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):
The price for red onions is Rp35,000, and garlic is available for just Rp50,000.
These prices are pretty reasonable, and it’s worth noting that shallots are even cheaper here than those in Java.
Reporter:
Could you provide some insights on how to predict price fluctuations before Eid al-Adha, Sir?
President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):
Absolutely, upon reviewing the situation, I have been to two markets, and the prices are reasonable, especially for rice. Initially, I was concerned about the cost of rice, but it turned out that it was reasonable due to abundant local production. There seems to be no problem at all.
Reporter:
Mr. Jokowi, perhaps you could share your insights on the composition of the KPK selection committee.
President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):
It has just been prepared, and we anticipate its completion in June.
Reporter:
Will it be announced in June?
President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):
Yes, this is to prepare the members of the selection committee.
Reporter:
Please provide the names of the public figures that have emerged so far, Sir.
President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo):
