President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo)
Today I visited Pindad along with Minister of Defense Pak Prabowo and Minister of State-owned Enterprises Pak Erick Thohir. We wanted to find out the prospects for the products of [PT] Pindad because every time I undertake foreign working visits, they always ask questions related to this item: bullets. The world is indeed experiencing a shortage of bullets.

Before receiving the PMN (state capital injections), Pindad’s bullet production was 275 million bullets and after the company received Rp700 billion in PMN, the production rose to 415 million bullets – almost doubled – as we have an additional lane from the PMN that we have provided.

Let me highlight that the defense industry in our country does have good prospects and it needs to be further developed. This includes manufacturing of bullets, vehicles, weapons because there is a high demand [for them]. But at the internal meeting earlier, I said that it would be better if we partner up, it would be better if we look for partners so that Pindad could develop even faster.

After this, after gathering all the inputs, we will arrange an internal cabinet meeting to discuss the issue and we will decide which direction Pindad will take. But what is clear, we will gradually relocate Pindad from Bandung to an industrial area in Subang in a property owned by Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises so Pindad will have a considerable area for its development as it has outstanding prospects. That concludes my remarks.

Pak, does it mean that the one in Turen will also be relocated to Subang?

President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo)
No, it may only be for development. The one here remains the same. For the development, it could be done in… if the partner wants to get a large amount of production, and if there is still land here, that’s fine. If it’s not possible, it can also be built in Subang.
