Press Statement of President of the Republic of Indonesia During Inspection of Mass COVID-19 Vaccination, 19 May 2021, Pekanbaru Sports Arena, Pekanbaru City, Riau Province

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Good afternoon,

May Peace Be Upon Us All.

After I have stated some warnings about COVID-19 spread in Riau province this morning, this afternoon I just inspected mass vaccination in Pekanbaru city.

As I said before, cities and regencies with high rate of COVID-19 positive case spread have to immediately curb the spread in order to reduce the cases.

Secondly, related to vaccination, I have ordered Minister of Health to deliver more vaccine supplies to the province that will be mainly used for vaccination in Pekanbaru and in Dumai City.

We hope we can achieve communal immunity or herd immunity immediately.

We also hope that the spread of COVID-19 in the province can be reduced as low as possible.

If the COVID-19 pandemic can be curbed, we hope economic growth in Riau province will improve and be restored in the second quarter this year.

We also hope for better condition amid the spread of COVID-19.

That concludes my speech on this auspicious occasion.

And today’s vaccination was attended by 10,800 people.
