Press Statement of President of the Republic of Indonesia During Tree Planting Activity with Manggarai Communtiy, at Anak Munting Retention Basin, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, December 5, 2023
Well, this initiative was initiated by Ministry of Environment and Forestry in December, spanning across several provinces. Similar event had been held in Jakarta yesterday, now it is held in East Nusa Tenggara province, specifically in West Manggarai Regency. Tomorrow, we hold it in Kupang. Our primary goal is to promote reforestation and tree planting, taking concrete steps to address climate change. Currently, our nurseries in Rumpin can produce six million seeds, Labuan Bajo can produce 5 million, Bali’s mangrove nursery can produce 6 million, and Mentawir has the potential for 15 million seeds, among other locations. However, producing seeds is just the beginning—ongoing planting is crucial. By continually planting these seeds, we aim to make our country greener and truly become the lungs of the world, contributing to a healthier environment.
We’re planting a diverse range of plants, many of which are endemic to the region. This includes species like calabur tree, bodhi tree, tabebuia tree, mulih, and sea almond tree, offering a mix of aesthetic and functional benefits.
