Press Statement of President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo on the Results of His Working Visit to the United States, at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport 19 February 2016
Unofficial English Translation
AssalamuÂ’alaikum warrahmatullahi wabarakaatuh,
My entourage and I have just finished our working visit to the United States to attend US-ASEAN Summit. I would like to say several things about this visit.
First, from the very beginning, we want to ensure that the results of the Summit must be beneficial to peace and prosperity, either in Indonesia, ASEAN countries, or the world.
Second, we also want to emphasize the importance of our support for micro, small, and medium enterprises in this era of economic openness and digital technology innovation. I did not just say these in the Summit, but I took concrete actions during our visit to Silicon Valley. Based on my discussions with Facebook, Google, as well as Plug and Play, they committed to cooperate in developing digital economy in Indonesia. Google, for example, is committed to conducting trainings for 1,000 technopreneurs until 2020. Furthermore, the cooperation with other companies will also be followed up.
Third, we also emphasized the peace message in the Summit when I became the first speaker in counter-terrorism discussion. The peace message was also followed up when we visited Silicon Valley. We encouraged social media industries to join us in spreading the values of tolerance, moderation, and peace. I am very pleased that they were very enthusiastic to support our initiative which we called empowering leader of peace.
That is my statement. Thank you.
AssalamuÂ’alaikum warrahmatullahi wabarakaatuh. (Humas) (MMB/YM/Naster)
