Reporter
What can you say about the earthquake that hit Malang yesterday morning and the aftershock today, Sir?

President of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo)
Yes, I received report from Head of the National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) on the earthquake of magnitude 6.1 in East Java province on Saturday afternoon, 10 April 2021. And I also received report that there was an aftershock this morning.

I have ordered Head of the BNPB, Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency, Minister of Social Affairs, Minister of Health, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces, Chief of the Indonesian National Police, and other related officials, as well as provincial and municipal governments to immediately take emergency measures. To search for and find victims who are trapped under the ruins and to immediately treat injured victims, as well as to manage the impacts of the earthquakes.

And, on behalf of the Government and all people of Indonesia, I would like to offer my sincerest condolences for the loss of the victims.

Let me also remind you that we are in the ring of fire. Therefore, natural activities can occur anytime, whether they are earthquakes or others. They can occur anytime; thus I remind governors, regents, and mayors to continue to urge the public to strengthen cooperation and improve preparedness (and) vigilance for disasters.

That concludes my statement.

I thank you. (DH/EP)
